Biography

Missoni was founded in 1953 by Ottavio and Rosita Missoni in Gallarate, Italy. The signature zig-zag knit was introduced early on. By the late 1950s, Missoni had become a major fashion house in Italy. A decade later, Missoni opened its first factory to mass-produce knitwear for international clients. Their stylish knits began appearing in both Italian and American Vogue, and by the 1970s, the brand was a household name. Missoni debuted their first menswear collection in 1979. A year later they introduced a fragrance. In 1998, Rosita handed over the running of the business to her daughter Angela and focused solely on Missoni Home (introduced in the 1980s). The same year a new line for men and women ‘M Missoni’ was created. The 2011 collaboration with Target furthered added to the brand's fame. Missoni Baia, Missoni's venture into real estate, is slated to open in 2021.
