Biography

Established by Ethel Traphagen in 1923 in New York City, the Traphagen School of Fashion played a key role in the development of American fashion. More than 28,000 students passed through its doors included lauded designers Anne Klein, Geoffrey Beene and James Galanos. The school espoused a 'design by adaptation' philosophy which encouraged design students to look to art and historic objects for inspiration.
