Biography
Nike, Inc. was founded in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by Bill Bowerman, a track-and-field coach. The first retail outlet was opened in 1966, and the Nike brand shoe was launched in 1972. The company was renamed Nike Inc., in 1978 and went public two years later. The company remains one of the largest manufacturers of sport sneakers in addition to this line of atheletic wear.
