The collection is the result of a fundraising effort spearheaded by Tom Caravaglia, the FIT Photography Department chair in 1990. A wide range of photographers, such as Berenice Abbott, Erwin Blumfeld, Russell Kay, Hank O'Neal, and Estelle Wolf were asked to donate examples of their work to "300 Photographs"--An auciton whose proceeds would directly benefit the FIT Photography department.
