Biography

H. Daroff and Sons is an American men's clothing manufacturer based in Philadelphia. It's brand Botany 500 was prominently featured and provided wardrobe for countless television shows in the 1960s and 1970s including Family Feud, Bewitched, and The Dick Van Dyke show. The company went bankrupt in 1972, and was bought out by men's apparel company Cohen & Sons. They continued to operate, garnering a workforce of 1,800 in 1978, but eventually went out of business in 1988.

The Oral History Project of the Fashion Industries began informally in the late 1970s, and was officially funded by a grant from the Educational Foundation for the Fashion Industries beginning in 1981. The project was guided by an industry advisory committee chaired by Mrs. William Randolph Hearst, Jr., and was largely guided by then director of the Gladys Marcus Library at FIT, John Touhey.
