Vera Companies
Biography
Vera Companies were begun in 1945 by Vera Neumann, her husband George Neumann, and F. Werner Hamm. By 1977, The Vera Companies had sales over $100 million. The Vera Companies employed a team of designers to keep up with demand. In 1972 the Smithsonian showcased Vera's designs in an exhibition. In 1975 the Fashion Institute of Technology also exhibited her work in a show titled "Vera: the Artist in Industry 1945-1975."

This collection contains original color sketches done in marker and pencil on paper of women's sportswear designs; several sketches have swatches attached. Many sketches are notated with details about the textiles and garments, and some are read "Irene McParland for Vera, 1973".
