 Person

Biography

Born in New York, Hannah Troy worked as a model, sketcher and fashion designer before starting her own womenswear business. After determining that the average American woman was short-waisted regardless of height, she introduced a line called "Troy Petites" that fit many women without alterations. Her petite sizing was later adopted as a standard in the fashion industry. In the early 1950's, Troy promoted Italian couture and fabrics, prompting the Italian government to honor her with many awards. Troy was married to Max Meyer the New York fashion industry leader, and they both served on the Board of Trustees of the Fashion Institute of Technology.
