Biography
John Rombola was born in 1933 in Brooklyn. Fashion ran in his blood; his mother was a pattern cutter. He became enthralled with fashion through his mother. Rombola studied at Pratt Institute. His work has appeared in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and have even appeared in the window displays of Bergdorf Goodman in New York.

This collection is comprised of sketches by artist John Rombola from 1952-1967. The sketches are gouache and ink on paper or board and are indicative of Rombola's lively and spirited style. The sketches depict men and women in colorful and highly decorated tribal-style dress (possibly costumes) that have a Picasso-esque quality. Many of the sketches are titled by the artist as well as dated.
