Biography

Christian Dior (1905-1957) was a French fashion designer who founded the Dior fashion house in 1946. Before opening his own house, Christian Dior worked alongside Pierre Balmain, who would also go on to become a leading post-war French designer. Dior's creations became famous in post-World War II Paris for their innovative shapes and silhouettes. Carmel Snow used the term "New Look" to describe Dior's curvaceous silhouettes. Dior is considered one of the most prolific and influential post-war French designers.
