Biography
The Texas born Stanley Burrows was an interior design educator who taught history of interior design and decoration with an emphasis on the 17th and 18th centuries at Parsons from 1946 through 1968. He later taught at FIT starting in 1968, and acted as chair of Interior Design from 1979 until his retirement in 1985. In 1993, Barrows received an honorary doctorate in Fine Arts from Parsons.

The Oral History Project of the Fashion Industries began informally in the late 1970s, and was officially funded by a grant from the Educational Foundation for the Fashion Industries beginning in 1981. The project was guided by an industry advisory committee chaired by Mrs. William Randolph Hearst, Jr., and was largely guided by then director of the Gladys Marcus Library at FIT, John Touhey.
