Biography
Edward Steichen was a key-figure of twentieth-century photography. He first exhibited his photographs at the Philadelphia Salon in 1899 and served as the Museum of Modern Art's director of photography from 1945 to 1962. At the MoMA, he mounted the renowned exhibition "The Family of Man," which consisted of over 500 photos from 68 countries.
