Biography

New York fashion designer George Simonton was born and raised in the Fort Hamilton area of Brooklyn, NY. With the desire to become a fashion designer, Simonton attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and graduated with an Associate’s degree. He later went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in science at Empire State College. Simonton's first job was working for Dan Millstein at a design house on 7th Avenue where he built a lifelong relationship with the designer, Calvin Klein. Later, while working at the company C’est Simone, Simonton was approached by the founder of Weight Watchers who backed the launching of his label, George Simonton Ltd. Simonton went on to become a very successful designer for QVC where he was given the Rising Star Award for selling the most items per minute. Simonton was also a full-time tenured professor of fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology where he was awarded the Chancellor’s Award of Teaching Excellence.
