Biography

Joseph A. Osina graduated in 1963-64 from [the High School for Industrial Arts on the Upper West Side and] the Fashion Institute of Technology. He worked as assistant to Gaston Berthelot, principle designer of Christian Dior -- New York. He remained at CDNY for 3 years, designing all the jewelry and hats for the collections and one or two of the models for each collection. He did all the house designer sketches. Osina was involved in selecting fabrics on sight and all aspects of the design process. He left CDNY and worked in Paris for a time and then a few months at Arnold Scaasi. He then worked 12 years for Monica Tilley and later as a photo stylist. Sometime in the 1970s, Osina returned to fine art, and pursued his desire to become a printmaker and book artitst. He taught print-making and book-binding for the book conservation department of the New York Public Library and passed away in 2011.
