Elissa D'Elia street fashion photographs
Scope and Contents
Photographs created by Elissa d'Elia in 2001, while she was employed as a freelance photographer for TimeOut NY magazine's "Public Eye" street style section. From the accession record: "The collection 'Street Style New York City 2001' brings together Elissa's photographs, which represent a one-year look at Manhattan and Brooklyn's trendsetting urbanites. The purpose of each photograph was to document street style and the originality of people's sartorial choices. Each photograph was caught on film using a basic SLR Nikon camera. The photographs have been minimally altered, mostly for resolution and scale."

General
From the accession records: "'Street Style New York City 2001' offers a historical snapshot of trendsetting urbanites wearing their own clothes in their own way. This collection of photographs presents personal style linked less to the fashion pages of the moment and more to a sense of identity and originality, before the onset of fast fashion and the globalization of trends that have occurred in the past few years. These photographs are unique in that they document street style from the beginning of the century. The individuatino of style in these images stands on its own as a celebration of set-expression, during a time when the internet did not provide a platform for the worldwide sharing of creative ideas. in the presentation of this collection, we hope to bring greater opportunity for research by expanding the view of street style from the recent past to that of over a decade ago." -- Elissa d'Elia and Martin leon Hamery, circa 2013.
