Biographical / Historical
Laura Johnson Mitchell, (circa 1895-1978) was a cartoonist and commercial fashion illustrator, best known for illustrating the fashion-themed syndicated comic strip Modish Mitzi, (1923- circa 1945), created under the collective pseudonym "Jay V. Jay " with writing by Virginia Vincent and Jeanette Kiekenveld. Her commercial fashion illustration work spans from the 1940s to the 1960s.

Materials were donated by Betsy Sundin in October 2023. Sundin is the grand-daughter of Laura Johnson Mitchell.
