Biographical / Historical
The Roundtable of Fashion Executives was founded in 1949 by Lucia Forman, Helen Faith Keane, and Betty Greene under the name Vox Pop (Voices of the People) because they felt the Fashion Group International had grown too large. The name was changed to The Roundtable of Fashion Executives. Membership was confidential and the group met once a month to discuss a predetermined topic with the purpose of "advance trend information of popular priced fashions for our mutual advantage." Membership was restricted to non-competing firms to enable a free exchange of information pertaining to the fashion industry.
Biographical / Historical
Helen Faith Keane was a native New Yorker, born November 11, 1901, and known as "Happy," she was a proud member of the first Girl Scouts Troop who sold WWI war bonds outside the NY Public Library. A graduate of Cornell University 1925, and Columbia University 1931, Happy began her career as a copywriter and educator. In 1949, she founded The Round Table of Fashion Executives, and in 1951, hosted TV talk show, "FYI: The Helen Faith Keane Show," on Channel 5, winning McCall's Magazine Golden Microphone Award for outstanding broadcasting service to women. She joined The Graduate School of Retailing at New York University in 1947 to teach "Costume History." Keane passed away in 2011 at the age of 109.
