Scope and Contents The Frances Neady collection of Original Fashion Illustrations was established in 1984 to honor its namesake, an inspirational teacher of fashion illustration. The collection encompasses over a century of fashion art. Its earliest example, a watercolor by Pierre Brissaud for Gazette du Bon Ton, is dated 1913; its most recent donation is by contemporary artist Ruben Toledo. This collection consists of one mechanically reproduced print depicting nineteen of Maria Monaci Gallenga's women's wear illustrations and pricing. Garments include Pre-Raphaelite "medieval style" tea gowns, velvet coats and wraps. Also present is an undated, one-page printed biography/description from an unknown publication detailing Gallenga's clothing designs and the textiles she used.

Scope and Contents

This collection holds original painted illustrations of home furnishing designs (armchairs and side chairs, desks, tables, sofas, ottomans and beds) and interior textiles such as bedspreads and curtains; all are signed by Max Walter, but only some are dated. Many renderings are stamped with the imprint "W. & J. Sloane" with an address of 575 Park Ave in New York City, and many also have handwritten pre-print notations.
