Biography

Macy's is an American department store founded in 1858 by Rowland Hussey Macy. In 1994 it became a division of the Dayton based Federated Department Stores and became affiliated with Blomingdale's department store chain. As of 2015, Macy's was the top U.S. department store chain by price sales. The flagship store is located at Herald Square in New York City.

This folder contains a scrapbook from 1935-1940 with promotional materials, business correspondence, and newspaper and magazine clippings for women's wear, men's wear, and children's wear made with Everfast Fabrics, under N. Erlanger, Blumgart & Co. (until 1936, and then as Everfast Fabrics, Inc.). There are promotions for Sunnidell prints, Butterick sewing patterns, Everfast Swedish prints, and the collection of prints designed by Elsa Schiaparelli, Jacques Heim, and Dilkusha.

This folder contains a hand-illustrated portfolio from 1957 with fabric swatches, magazine clippings, and promotional materials for drapery fabrics from Everfast Fabrics sold at Macy's and featured in the February issue of Living for Young Homemakers. There are large fabric swatches, descriptions of the inspiration behind the design, and suggestions for their use. There is also an Everfast test card with swatches demonstrating its colorfastness.
