Biography

Self-described "fashionist," Shannon was born in Ohio and spent her adult years in New Mexico and New York City. She attended Smith College, but dropped out to marry and travel to Europe. At different points in her career whe was involved in window displays, hand-craft weaving, and consulted with major fiber and textile firms, such as Cone Mills, on color, styling and promotion. In the 1950's she popularized denim for women's fashions with her Lady Pioneer line and worked with muslin and calico to create clothes and handbags.
