Biography

Christian Dior (1905-1957) was a French fashion designer who founded the Dior fashion house in 1946. Before opening his own house, Christian Dior worked alongside Pierre Balmain, who would also go on to become a leading post-war French designer. Dior's creations became famous in post-World War II Paris for their innovative shapes and silhouettes. Carmel Snow used the term "New Look" to describe Dior's curvaceous silhouettes.
