Volume 1: The Mainbocher-Warner Corset, 1938 - 1940

Volume 1 contains coverage of Mainbocher's back-to corsets movement and the new long torso silhouette he created in undergarments during his collaboration with Warner. It also contains extensive coverage of his famous "Rules for Chic" 12-point plan and his first trip back to his native Chicago. Clipped newsprint articles cover a wartime benefit French fashion show featuring garments by Schiaparelli, Mainbocher, Alix, Molyneux and Lanvin; articles written by the Countess Albert de Mun, the Fashion Group's 3rd annual show, and on page 84 an article about Eleanor Roosevelt attending Wannamaker's fashion exhibit and looking at a dress made for the Duchess of Windsor by Mainbocher; also included are Mainbocher-Warner press release materials, a New Yorker profile, and magazine tears taken from the New Yorker, Vogue, Town and Country and Harper's Bazaar among other publications.

Loose items in folders include press publication lists, a flyer for John Marchall High School's homecoming with a handwritten note to Main, and a full issue of Look magazine from Jan 18 1938 featuring articles on Mainbocher and the Duchess of Windsor Wallis Simpson's gowns.
