Volume 25: Women's wear and society fashion, Nov 1961 - Fall 1962

 Item — folio: 25

Scope and Contents

Volume 25 includes general press about Mainbocher's designs, as well as articles that just refer to him and his influence rather than being about him; the clippings cover fur, evening wear, women's wear generally, and shoes (including Orbach's and Christian Dior evening boots). Notable personalities such as Gloria Vanderbilt, Cee Zee Guest and an amusing photograph with accompanying article showing Mrs. Frank McMahon and Mrs. William Carr wearing matching Mainbocher outfits at a Palm Beach society event. One article documents uniforms Mainbocher designed for tour guides at Boscobel House in Garrison, NY, in a color he dubbed "Boscobel blue".

Within the scrapbook are also multiple loose full magazine article tears: "Fabulous Fashions" by Rubye Graham from the Philadelphia Inquirer Magazine, Oct 8 1961, "Inside the Exciting World of Fashion: the autobiography of Carmel Snow" from Ladies Home Journal Apr 1962, "The Park Avenue Look" by Harriet La Barre (publication unknown), and "What it's like Today in Society", the cover article from Time magazine from Jul 20 1962 which is about Cee Zee Guest. There is a full Playbill for "A Man for All Seasons" at the Anta Theater--Mainbocher designed the costumes for the production--with an article about Mainbocher by Virginia Pope titled "All American Designer".
