Fashion plates and images from the sixteenth to twentieth century
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of primary source material from various fashion-related sources from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The majority of the sources are fashion plates and tear sheets, but there are also sketches, photographs, and advertisements. Most of the images reflect women's and men's fashions, with some children's fashions, as indicated.

Arrangement
The collection is arranged into three series: Fashion plates; Fashion illustrations and sketches; and Photographs. Folders are arranged chronologically within the series. When the periodical/source is known, it is listed in the Scope and Contents of each folder. The folders are divided by decades, beginning with 1590-1599. Within the folders, the plates are grouped by publication, when known.
Custodial History
* Prior to 2024, this collection had been merged from several different collections of similar materials that originally were cataloged under the SPARC IDs US.NNFIT.SC.112 and SC.113, and entitled "Miscellaneous fashion plates".
* 2024: This collection was rearranged by Molly Jacobson. Originally divided by Men's, Women's, and Children's fashions, the original publications and dates of the plates were identified, when possible, and combined into one collection, divided by date and then periodical. Materials have been arranged into series according to media genre.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
* 1991: From the collection of Lisl Hummel, 19 plates "...from Parisian publications including Lady's Magazine and museum, Modes Parisiennes, Journal des Dames & des Modes, Modes de Paris, etc...." Accessioned in March, 2009
* 2015 December: Donation from Sari Singer of drawings she purchased from the 26th Street Flea Market in the 1980s.
* 2017 September: Donation by Vito L. Bianco of 21 19th Century fashion plates, which he had purchased in 1985.
* 2017 August: Donation from Juliana Fetter.
* 2020 August: Donation by Vito L. Bianco of 6 fashion plates dating from 1825-1834.
* 2022 April: Purchase of ink, pencil, and gouache fashion illustrations from Woodstock Art Gallery. Initially added to collection SC.326, but merged into this SC.111 in 2024.
* undated purchase of plates from Diktats.
